Dying in Vain

In response to Marcus Luttrell’s recoil against Jake Tapper, Jim Gourley wrote a guest blog for Tom Ricks on the ultimately vain sacrifices of Iraq veterans and the role of the US citizenship in perpetuating them.

Gourley’s follows a string of recent pieces (examples here and here) in which Iraq veterans have opened up about coming to terms with the meaning of their comrades’ deaths in Iraq. I must respectfully say that it’s time for the rest of the citizenship to reciprocate.

Rather than post an excerpt, I recommend the piece in full.
