When Man and Fish Are in Harmony

A fine example of American leadership:

“When you compare the United States with the European Union, with Asian countries, et cetera, we are the only industrialized fishing nation who actually has succeeded in ending overfishing,” he said.

Fishermen used to years of harvesting as they pleased are predictably upset, and it’s easier to commemorate this event when your livelihood isn’t on the line.   But we gotta do what we gotta do.

We shouldn’t mess with the ocean ecosystem.  Not only can overfishing harm that system in unpredictable ways, it can ruin coastal economies in the long run.  So this isn’t as big a victory as say, oh, winning the Cold War, nor does it earn us any macho points, but it’s laudable nonetheless.
